About
Anne Courtney is an associate director in the Oncology Clinic at UT Health Austin. She was born and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan and her desire for a warmer climate landed her in California to attended San Diego State University for her undergraduate nursing degree. She worked in medical oncology at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla.
She later attended University of California, Los Angeles for a dual nurse practitioner and clinical nurse specialist master’s degree. She worked at UCLA Sant Monica with a focus on lymphoma and sarcoma. She later went to UCLA Ronald Reagan under the Division of Thoracic Surgery and Comprehensive Mesothelioma Program. Courtney loved the transition from medical to surgical oncology to give her another perspective on the full patient experience. She specialized in lung, esophageal, sarcoma and mesothelioma.
Courtney moved to Austin in 2014 and worked at Texas Oncology. She cared for a wide array of malignancies and benign hematology and found a new interest in genetic counseling and completed additional training through City of Hope’s Division of Clinical Cancer Genetics.
Her desire to return to academic practice led her to UT Health Austin. She helped open the Musculoskeletal Institute and this is where concepts of value-based care hit home for her. Courtney feels honored to be part of the Livestrong Cancer Institutes.
