About
Amir Mian’s clinical interests include myeloid leukemias, stem cell transplantation and supportive care. His research interests encompass neutropenia/sepsis and predictive model building with data analytics by applying artificial intelligence methodology. In addition to his appointment at Dell Medical School, he serves as the division chief for pediatric hematology-oncology at Dell Children’s Medical Center.
Prior to joining Dell Med, Mian served as professor, division chief for pediatric hematology-oncology and director of bone marrow transplantation at Augusta University. He graduated from Allama Iqbal Medical College in Lahore, Pakistan, and he completed pediatric residency training at Beth Israel Medical Center-Long Island College Hospital in New York, where he then served as chief resident. He proceeded to complete a pediatric hematology-oncology fellowship at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center with an additional year in bone marrow transplantation. During this time, he also earned a master’s in clinical epidemiology. In 2017, he earned an MBA with a focus on health care followed by a certificate in clinical informatics in 2021.
In 2006, Mian joined University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences-Arkansas Children’s Hospital as an assistant professor and subsequently associate professor, and served as interim director of the bone marrow transplant program. During his tenure, he led the program to prepare for and successfully achieve its initial Foundation for the Accrediataion of Cellular Therapy accreditation.
Throughout his career, Mian has received several intramural and extramural grants to pursue translational research interests in supportive care and predictive model building to improve clinical outcomes. He serves in a leadership capacity in various professional associations, including member of the board of trustees for the American Society of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology and vice chair of the finance committee for the American Society of Transplantation and Cellular Therapy. Additionally, he served as a founding member, vice chair and chair 2024 for American Society of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology’s Innovation, Informatics and Entrepreneurship, Special Interest Group.
Mian has additional interests in health care economics, professional development and innovation in medicine. From 2021-2023, he hosted a monthly podcast — DocTalk — focused on professional growth and fulfillment in medicine.
