Our Community’s Vision for Better Health

In November 2012, Travis County voters approved Proposition 1, which allocated property tax revenue to be “used for improved health care in Travis County, including support for a new medical school consistent with the mission of Central Health.” The investment includes $35 million annually for Dell Medical School.

In July 2014, The University of Texas at Austin, Central Health and the Community Care Collaborative signed an affiliation agreement, which formalized the relationship among the three entities as well as the transfer of $35 million per year to support the medical school.

All related funds are used in accordance with the affiliation agreement, which expressly permits funds received from Central Health to be used for “direct operating support … to facilitate and enhance (i) development, accreditation and ongoing operation of the UT Austin Dell Medical School and its administrative infrastructure, and (ii) recruitment, retention and work of the UT Austin Dell Medical School faculty, residents, medical students, researchers, administrators, staff and other clinicians.” Additionally, and per the affiliation agreement, funds that Dell Med receives from Central Health are segregated, kept separate and not commingled with unrestricted funds from other sources.

Progress & Impact

Dell Med’s unique and unprecedented connection to its community helped shape its mission and vision, and current and past reports highlight Dell Med’s support for Central Health’s mission.
