Health Sciences Yearlong Academy
The Health Sciences Yearlong Academy at Dell Medical School offers high school students the opportunity to participate in monthly sessions covering health sciences, college readiness, strategies for a successful mentor experience, collaborative projects and health professions guest speakers.
About the Experience
From September to May, students participate in monthly Saturday sessions at Dell Med. Sessions are comprised of a four-hour period in which students work on an interest-based project, learn about health sciences and college readiness, hear guest speakers discuss their personal and professional experiences, and work with mentors to build both academic and personal skills.
Collaboration, Mentorship & College Readiness
- For the sessions dedicated to an interest-based project, students choose an area of focus and develop a project with the goal of directly impacting the local community.
- The academy’s mentorship sessions are made of both Dell Med students and Health Sciences Summer Camps counselors who aid students with their school work and develop mentor-mentee relationship skills.
- The academy also promotes college readiness to participating students by sharing valuable information and best practices related to financial aid, important college deadlines, essay writing, course and major selection, and college applications.
