Samuel E. “Rhett” Long, III, M.D., FACS, is a board-certified general surgeon and fellowship-trained endocrine surgeon in UT Health Austin’s Surgical Oncology Clinic. He specializes in thyroid disease and cancer, hyperparathyroidism (primary, secondary and tertiary) and conditions of the adrenal gland, including primary aldosteronism, pheochromocytoma, and benign and malignant tumors.
Long earned his bachelor’s degree from Samford University and his medical degree from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine. He completed an internship in general surgery at Baylor College of Medicine in the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery, a residency in general surgery at The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School,and a fellowship in endocrine surgery at the University of Michigan.
Long is a member of the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, the American Medical Association and the Travis County Medical Society.
