About

Nilda Garcia, M.D., FACS, is chief of the Division of Pediatric Surgery, a professor for the Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care and the surgeon in chief and medical director of Children’s Surgery at Dell Children’s Medical Center.

Garcia grew up in South Texas and attended The University of Texas in Austin. She received a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy prior to enrolling in medical school at UT Southwestern in Dallas. She then completed her general surgery residency at UT Southwestern/Parkland Hospital in Dallas, which included a two-year research fellowship. Her pediatric surgery fellowship was completed at Los Angeles Children’s Hospital in California.

Prior to returning to Austin, Garcia was the associate director of trauma at Dallas Children’s Hospital, and she practiced as a pediatric surgeon in Dallas from 1998 to 2010. She is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Pediatric Surgery.
