Lloyd Berg, Ph.D., ABPP

Lloyd Berg, Ph.D., ABPP, is an associate professor and division chief of psychology in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Dell Medical School. He is a clinical associate professor in The University of Texas at Austin’s Department of Psychology, Department of Educational Psychology and Steve Hicks School of Social Work.

Berg specializes in the integration of person-centered mental and behavioral health services in the medical setting. He is a consultation-liaison psychologist and psychology specialty service chief at Ascension Seton, Dell Med’s hospital affiliate, and principal investigator on a federal Health Resources and Services Administration grant supporting UT Austin’s Integrated Behavioral Health Scholars Program, a cross-campus collaboration preparing psychology, psychiatry, social work and psychiatric nurse practitioner trainees to provide team-based behavioral health services in medically underserved Texas communities.

Berg received his bachelor’s degree in psychology and master’s and doctoral degrees in counseling psychology from UT Austin, where he also completed his clinical internship training. Before joining the department, Berg was the inaugural full-time behavioral science director at Central Texas Medical Foundation’s family practice residency and a founder of Austin’s first clinical health psychology specialty group. He has held faculty appointments with the University of Texas Medical Branch, UT Southwestern Medical Center and Texas A&M College of Medicine.

Berg is board-certified in clinical health psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology. He is a fellow of the American Psychological Association and former president of the American Academy of Clinical Health Psychology. Berg also conducts research on musician mental health and is a former board chair of the SIMS Foundation, a nonprofit organization providing mental health services to Austin’s live music community.
