About

Catherine Aiken is an affiliate faculty member in the Department of Women’s Health at Dell Medical School. She is an academic clinical lecturer for Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge U.K., where she also practices in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She received her medical degree from the University of Cambridge, School of Clinical Medicine, where she also completed her fellowship. Aiken then went on to complete a subspecialty fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine with Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (Cambridge, U.K.).

As a specialist in maternal fetal medicine, Aiken maximized her theoretical knowledge in maternal medicine by completing a membership with the Royal College of Physicians, making her an expert in the field. Her special areas of interest within the maternal fetal medicine subspecialty include fetal growth and maternal cardiovascular disease. She has received a number of honors and awards including the Pfizer President’s Award, the Winter Science Meeting Oral Plenary Prize, the Julian T. (Bill) Parer Award, and the Clinical Supervisor Prize for Teaching Excellence.

Aiken’s research is focused on the long-term impacts of an adverse intrauterine environment. Her research has been supported by grants through the Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust, the Academy of Medical Sciences, and the British Maternal and Fetal Medicine Society Research Bursary. Her work has been published in high-impact journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, the Journal of Perinatology, and the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology. In addition, she has co-authored a number of chapters in textbooks.

Aiken lives in Cambridge, U.K., with her husband and border collie and enjoys running, cooking and skiing in her free time.
