Psychiatry Residency: Curriculum

Post Graduate Year 1 (PGY-1)

13 blocks of 4 weeks

1 block: Pediatrics Inpatient
1 block: Internal Medicine Inpatient
1 block: Internal Medicine Outpatient
1 block: Emergency Medicine
2 blocks: Neurology (One block Inpatient, and One Block Outpatient)
6 blocks: Adult Inpatient Psychiatry
1 block: Child & Adolescent Inpatient Psychiatry
5 hours/week: Didactics

Post Graduate Year 2 (PGY-2)

12 months (2 days/week): Adult Outpatient Psychiatry at Seton Mind Institute
12 months (1 day/week): Adult Outpatient Psychiatry at VA
12 months (½ day/week): Child and Adolescent Outpatient Psychiatry
12 months (½ day/week): Geriatric Outpatient Psychiatry
1 day / week: Didactics and Psychotherapy Supervision

Post Graduate Year 3 (PGY-3)

4 months: Adult Inpatient Psychiatry
3 months: Consultation Liaison Psychiatry
2 months: Emergency Psychiatry
1 month: ECT
1 month: Forensic Psychiatry
1 month: Chemical Dependency at VA
½ day / week: Didactics
½ day / week: Outpatient continuity clinic (medication management)
½ day / week: Psychotherapy continuity clinic

Post Graduate Year 4 (PGY-4)

2 months: Community Psychiatry
3 months: Scholarship Selective
7 months: Electives (e.g. VA PTSD, UT Student Mental Health, Psychotherapy, Forensics, Correctional, Eating Disorder, Administrative, DBT Intensive Outpatient, Research)
½ day / week: Didactics
½ day / week: Outpatient continuity clinic (medication management)
½ day / week: Psychotherapy continuity clinic
