This unique training program is designed to provide residents with a comprehensive foundation of medical knowledge and skills in the subspecialties of orthopaedic surgery with a focus on team-based, interdisciplinary care for musculoskeletal disease. The curriculum equips surgeons with the knowledge and skills to improve the value of care they provide to their patients. Each resident develops a foundation of medical knowledge, clinical skills, leadership and interpersonal skills through practice in interdisciplinary Integrated Practice Units.

Curriculum Components

The Orthopaedic Surgery Residency program upholds the ethical standards, principles and practices established by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. Residents learn to incorporate these principles and practices into every facet of their professional life.

In addition to traditional orthopaedic education, our program provides unique opportunities for residents to become leaders and innovators in the transformation of health care. Residents complete a Foundations in Care Transformation training, which emphasizes value-based care, quality improvement, health equity, leadership and other key competencies in health systems science. The foundational training is part of Dell Med’s signature graduate medical education curriculum, Advancing Care Transformation.

Residents also develop an understanding of the importance of providing care to people who face the most obstacles to care — locally and abroad — through direct patient care, knowledge exchange and exposure to a global health experience. Each resident has the opportunity to complete an international orthopaedic rotation during the elective block in the fourth year of residency.
