Multidisciplinary partnership offers array of digestive health services, including surgery, nutrition and clinical social work
(Austin, TX) -- UT Health Austin and Ascension Seton announce the opening of Digestive Health, a clinical partnership that brings together highly specialized providers into a team-based system of care. An innovative multidisciplinary program integrating gastroenterology and GI surgery, Digestive Health is bolstered by advanced diagnostics, nutritional services, and clinical social work all in a single clinic, led by specialists focused on patient outcomes, cutting-edge research, and teaching the next generation of physicians.
“This is our first clinical practice partnership with UT Health Austin, bringing together the best of clinical and operational expertise to expand our specialty care to serve our community,” said Clay Carsner, Chief Operating Officer at Ascension Medical Group in Texas. “Together, we are advancing the latest research and technological developments in this field of medicine and building an integrated system of care that is a collaborative resource for clinicians and their patients.”
“This partnership allows patients and families to stay close to home for all of their health care needs, making our team-based model of care more convenient than ever before,” said C. Martin Harris, M.D., UT Health Austin’s Health Enterprise Associate Vice President and Professor of Internal Medicine at Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin. UT Health Austin is the clinical practice of Dell Med.
Digestive Health, including the heartburn and esophageal disorders program, is led by Medical Director and Dell Med Chief of Gastroenterology and Hepatology Deepak Agrawal, M.D., MPH, and Surgical Director F. Paul “Tripp” Buckley, M.D., Associate Professor in Dell Med’s Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care. Agrawal and Buckley will lead a team of GI and surgical subspecialists.
“More than 60 million Americans are affected by digestive diseases, and the available diagnostic and treatment options are increasing in number and complexity,” said Agrawal. “Digestive Health offers advanced care for inflammatory bowel disease, liver, pancreas, colon and esophagus, working closely with surgeons, dieticians, social workers, and others to help patients find the right treatment options for their needs.”
With patients from over 30 states and five countries, Buckley notes, “We are proud to serve our local community, all of Texas, and patients nationally and internationally. This is a testament to our patient-centered, integrated approach that is designed to decrease wait times for consults and diagnostics as well as optimize outcomes that matter to patients.”
