Achieving World-Class Neurosurgery Care, Education & Research

The Department of Neurosurgery is building excellent clinical care, education and research programs to advance Dell Medical School’s mission to revolutionize how people get and stay healthy, especially focusing on improving outcomes for patients with neurological diseases.

By leading neurosurgical innovations and contributing to the neuroscience discoveries at the Mulva Clinic for the Neurosciences and across The University of Texas at Austin campus, the department aims to make a positive difference for people seeking care for brain and spine conditions, and serve as a model in Austin, Central Texas and beyond.

Focus Areas

The department works with multidisciplinary partners in UT Health Austin, Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas, Ascension Texas and others to design and implement advanced clinical care teams to optimize neurosurgical care for children and adults with brain and spine conditions.

The department performs research to discover, innovate and optimize new solutions to improve the outcomes and quality of life for patients living with neurological conditions. Major translational initiatives in brain tumors and brain-computer interface research engages collaborative teams of clinicians and scientists across the Mulva Clinic for the Neurosciences and The University of Texas at Austin. Faculty actively lead clinical trials, quality and outcomes, and technology development projects in neurotrauma, mapping brain functions, spine care and cerebrovascular disease areas.

The department aims to train the next generation of neurosurgery clinicians through innovative medical school, residency and fellowship programs and engage all trainees in Dell Medical School’s distinction and leadership development activities.
