Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship

The Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship at Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin provides a comprehensive educational experience in a supportive and diverse learning environment that fosters compassionate, patient-centered, evidence-based, high-value health care. 

Fellows are trained to work collaboratively and communicate effectively in a multidisciplinary network to provide optimum care for patients with sports medicine or orthopaedic conditions. Fellows are also exposed to unique educational opportunities in the field of sports medicine with physically active patient populations and team sporting events.

The Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship is affiliated with the Department of Population Health. Learn more about the program in a welcome letter from program director Leigh Romero, M.D., CAQSM.

Training Facilities

Ascension Seton Medical Group Sports Medicine Clinic exterior.

Ascension Seton Medical Group Sports Medicine Clinic is the main location for the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship. This location houses a multidisciplinary team, including individuals in primary care sports medicine, physical medicine and rehabilitation, orthopaedic surgery, athletic training, sports science, physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy.

Dell Seton Medical Center at UT Austin.

Dell Seton Medical Center, the primary teaching hospital of Dell Medical School, holds a total of 240 beds and functions as the safety net hospital in the city of Austin, as well as the only major adult Level 1 trauma center in Central Texas.

Southeast Health and Wellness Center.

The CommUnityCareSoutheast Health and Wellness Center provides onsite services such as case management, clinical pharmacy counseling, laboratory services, radiology, retinal imaging, nutrition classes and counseling, exercise classes, mobile clinics and clinics for people experiencing homelessness.
