About

Sanjay K. Sharma, M.D., FACS, is an affiliate faculty member in the Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care. He is also chief of plastic, reconstructive and hand surgery for Dell Seton Medical Center at The University of Texas and chief executive officer of the Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery for Ascension Texas.

Sharma is a plastic surgeon specializing in hand and microsurgery. He is double-board-certified in plastic surgery and hand surgery.

Sharma attended Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. An additional one-year orthopaedic hand surgery fellowship at the University of Washington Department of Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine in Seattle further developed Sharma’s skills as a hand and upper-extremity surgeon. With his combined training in plastic surgery and orthopaedic surgery, he brings a unique perspective to hand surgery, and his skills make him a well-rounded specialist.

Sharma is also an adjunct clinical assistant professor in plastic surgery with The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and sees congenital hand anomalies and pediatric hand trauma at Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas. His other areas of interest include aesthetic surgery, breast enhancement and body contouring. He has been in practice exclusively in Austin, Texas, since 2003.

As a leader in the development of clinical, education and research programs for Dell Seton, he seeks to improve the quality of care in Central Texas. Teaching students and residents rounds out his comprehensive clinical practice.

Sharma has published numerous articles about plastic surgery and hand surgery, and he has presented research at meetings across the United States. He has been an invited speaker at local and regional meetings on the topic of trauma reconstruction, plastic surgery and hand surgery.

In his spare time, he enjoys cooking, playing tennis, fly fishing, other outdoor pursuits and travel. He is married and has two daughters and a French bulldog named Sebastian.
