About
Saagar N. Patel, M.D., was born in Austin, Texas, and grew up in Houston. He graduated with bachelor’s degrees in Plan II honors and dean’s scholars biochemistry honors from The University of Texas at Austin, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. During his undergraduate studies, he researched the chemical synthesis of xanthofulvin analogues, a neuroregenerative natural product. Patel then attended Baylor College of Medicine on a partial scholarship for medical school.
After medical school, he completed an internship in internal medicine at Dell Medical School before moving on to his ophthalmology residency at Pennsylvania State University. He was honored to be selected for the Heed Foundation Fellow’s retreat in Denver, Colorado, during his residency. Patel has completed his fellowship in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery at the University of Colorado Sue Anschutz Eye Center in Aurora.
Patel’s areas of expertise include surgical and medical retina, secondary lenses, complex diabetic care and vascular diseases. He is passionate about helping patients with sight-threatening diseases, recognizing the profound impact of vision on daily life. The gratitude expressed by his patients fuels his dedication to providing the best care possible. He believes in a personalized approach to patient care, striving to listen and tailor treatment to each individual’s needs.
