About

Michael Breen, M.D., FACOG, is associate chair of clinical integration and operations and an associate professor in the Department of Women’s Health. He is also the associate residency program director for the Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency and director of robotics and minimally invasive surgery.

Breen came to Dell Medical School from The University of Texas Southwestern programs, where he was assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology and the director of robotic and minimally invasive surgery, as well as associate program director of the OB-GYN residency. He completed medical school at The University of Texas Medical Branch and completed his obstetrics and gynecology residency at University of Arizona/Phoenix Integrated Residency. Breen also completed a family medicine residency at UT Southwestern/John Peter Smith Hospital.

Breen’s research focuses on safety in robotics platform surgery as well as endometriosis resection surgical techniques and diagnostic methods. He also has been active in surgical training techniques including dual-console robotic education. His scientific presentations have included research in upper-extremity mobility impaired surgeons and prevention of ocular injuries in robotic-assisted surgical patients. His publications have appeared in high-impact journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine and the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He has received honors and awards on both the regional and national levels and is a mentor to students, residents and faculty members at Dell Medical School.

Breen lives in Austin with his wife, Anna, and has two daughters. He enjoys skiing, sailing on Lake Travis, running with his marathon group and walking Lady Bird Lake.
