Malena Amato is a clinical assistant professor with the Dell Medical School Department of Ophthalmology. With more than 18 years of experience, she has performed thousands of eyelid and facial surgeries. She brings to Texas the highest level of training from Stanford and Georgetown universities, with board certification and completion of an accredited two-year ASOPRS oculo-facial surgery fellowship. As a leader in her field, Amato strives to provide cutting-edge minimally invasive techniques in cosmetic facial rejuvenation and reconstruction for all ages including endoscopic surgical and non-surgical techniques. As a female surgeon, she provides a personalized touch to patient care. There is no greater joy than a happy patient.

Amato is a native of St. Louis, Missouri. She rowed competitively for Oxford University and graduated Magnum Cum Laude from Boston College. She obtained her medical degree from Georgetown University in Washington, D. C., completed a general surgery internship at Stanford Hospital in Palo Alto, California and an ophthalmology residency at Georgetown University. In 2002, Amato completed her ASOPRS fellowship in Austin, Texas and MD Anderson in Houston, Texas. She went on to serve as adjunct clinical faculty at Georgetown University and the University of Maryland while practicing in Annapolis, Maryland. She relocated to Northern California where she practiced at Kaiser Permanente, and continued to teach and do research as an adjunct clinical professor at Stanford Hospital. Amato has numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals and participates in state and national professional organizations including the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

As an international speaker and educator, she developed a special interest in medical missions, assisting underserved countries including Vietnam, Brazil, Egypt, Zimbabwe and Cambodia with organizations such as SEE International, Eyes on Africa, Face the Challenge and International Medical Relief Organization. She returned to Austin, Texas in 2013 with her husband and two young boys. Amato has become highly respected in the community, selected as Austin’s Top Doctor and Super Doctor five years in a row and served as president of the Austin Ophthalmology Society. She is the founder of Eyelid & Facial Plastic Surgery Associates in Austin where she can provide personalized one-on-one care in a state-of-the-art facility. She and her family enjoy skiing, traveling and giving back.
