About
John Sabra is an affiliate faculty member in the Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, in 1991 and remained there to obtain his medical degree in 1995. Sabra accomplished this as part of a prestigious unified program and finished medical school with distinction. He then moved to Texas, where he completed an internship and general surgery residency at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas and Parkland Memorial Hospital.
After finishing surgical training in 2000, Sabra went on active duty in the U.S. Navy, completing four overseas tours of service. He became a decorated Naval officer and advanced to the rank of lieutenant commander. He joined Ascension Seton Surgical Group in 2003 and has been instrumental in advancing the role of minimally invasive surgery. One of his areas of interest is in GI motility, and he is the only surgeon in Central Texas implanting gastric neurostimulators to treat gastroparesis. Sabra has fostered his interest in endocrine surgery by creating a monthly surgical endocrine conference in collaboration with local endocrinologists.
