About

Jason Somogyi, M.D., is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon at Texas Orthopedics. Somogyi grew up in Illinois, where he excelled as a three-sport high school athlete and graduated as class valedictorian. He continued his education and athletic pursuits while attending Illinois Wesleyan University on scholarship. While at Illinois Wesleyan, he earned academic all-conference honors in varsity soccer, served as president of his chapter of the National Biologic Honor Society and graduated with honors with a double major in biology and psychology.

Following his undergraduate studies, he completed his medical degree at the Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine in Chicago. While there, he developed a passion for orthopaedic surgery and met his wife, Marie. He also served on the executive board of the Medical Student Union and as managing editor of the publication Vital Signs. He was chosen to continue his training at the world-renowned University of Chicago, where he was honored with the Chief Resident Leadership and Education Award by his colleagues. He was recruited to continue his specialty training in hand and upper extremity surgery at the University of Chicago under the guidance of some of the most respected hand and upper extremity surgeons in the nation.

Following residency, Somogyi was selected from amongst an international pool of applicants for a prestigious AO Trauma Fellowship at the historic Eberhard Karls University of Tubingen, Germany. While there, he completed additional training in complex upper extremity trauma. He specializes in comprehensive upper extremity care and has a special interest in minimally-invasive endoscopic carpal tunnel surgery and all fractures of the upper extremities. Somogyi strives to treat all his patients like he would his own family. He encourages his patients to ask questions and engages them to work together as a team toward the optimal treatment plan. His patients frequently compliment his professional and empathetic approach to their care to achieve the best outcome.

Somogyi has a passion for education and service. He is an active member of the teaching faculty of Dell Medical School’s Orthopaedic Surgery Residency program and has published his research and presented his work on the care of the upper extremities at national meetings. He serves on the editorial board for Hand-e (an online education resource platform of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand). He actively works with the Texas Medical Board to evaluate and protect the standard of orthopaedic care in Texas. Somogyi has served as a reviewer for the Journal of Hand Surgery and facilitated the Occupational Therapist Upper Extremity training program at Fort Hood. At the Fort Hood Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center, he had the honor of providing comprehensive upper extremity care to soldiers, veterans and their families.
