Eliel Oliveira

About

Eliel Oliveira is the director of research data infrastructure on the data integration team in the Department of Population Health. Oliveira has extensive experience in health information technology design, implementation and management with a focus on information systems that support research activities, care coordination and HIT innovation.

Prior to joining Dell Medical School, Oliveira was the chief information officer at the Louisiana Public Health Institute (LPHI) in New Orleans where he led the architectural design and implementation of the Research Action for Health Network as one of the leading nodes in the national Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Network infrastructure. Oliveira also directed the technical teams at LPHI in the management of the Greater New Orleans Health Information Exchange (GNOHIE) and in the development of technologies to integrate social determinates of health data sources to improve the health and quality of life of all Louisianians.

Oliveira is the former Director of Technology for the Louisiana Cancer Research Center where he designed, built and managed the development of a state-of-the-art $100 million cancer research facility in the city of New Orleans to serve the needs for cancer education, research and treatment with the state of Louisiana. He also led the implementation of all research information systems to facilitate the center’s research activities including its clinical trials management system, biorepository, genomics and data integrations across multiple information systems.

Oliveira was the CEO and founder of eNre an health care information technology startup that developed a point-of-care patient recruitment platform to efficiently engage patients in research studies. Oliveira holds a Bachelor of Science in computer science from Universidade de Alfenas, Brazil. He has held a faculty position at Tulane School of Medicine at Tulane University in New Orleans where he also earned his Master in Science in international development and technology. He earned his Master of Business Administration from the A.B. Freeman School of Business.
