In addition to her faculty appointment at Dell Medical School, Walker is the consultation-liaison psychiatry service line lead for Ascension Seton hospitals and chief of psychiatry at Dell Seton Medical Center at The University of Texas. She specializes in the psychiatric care of medically ill patients with additional expertise in substance use disorders. Walker has a particular interest in withdrawal syndromes and toxidromes, perinatal psychiatric care, heart and other whole organ transplant evaluation, delirium, managing agitation, and navigating systems of care, including the mental health courts and carceral system in Texas. In 2018 she co-founded the first of its kind in Texas “B team” (buprenorphine team) charged with reducing associated stigma, evaluating, treating and connecting to outpatient care in patients with opioid use disorder admitted to medical hospitals.

Walker teaches medical students and residents from many different specialties. She has been the recipient of numerous awards over her career, including the Humanism in Psychiatry Award during medical school, the Van Dao Best Resident Award and, more recently, several teaching awards. She supports physicians in recovery as a member of the Travis Count Medical Society Physician Health and Rehab Committee. She is also a champion of women in medicine, regularly mentors residents and junior colleagues and is a member of the Women in Medicine Committee with Travis County Medical Society.
