About

Alejandro Moreno is an associate professor of medicine and assistant dean for clinical integration at Dell Medical School. He is a practicing physician and attorney. He attended the Instituto de Ciencias de la Salud in Medellín, Colombia, graduating in 1992. He completed his residency in internal medicine in 1997 and his fellowship in general internal medicine in 2000, both at the Boston University Medical Center. Also in 2000, Moreno received a Master of Public Health – Health Law from the Boston University School of Public Health. In 2006, he obtained a law degree from the St. Mary’s University School of Law in San Antonio, Texas; he was approved to practice law in Texas the same year.

Moreno has worked in medical education since 2002, first with the Internal Medicine Residency Program and now with the Department of Medical Education. He is also an expert in the care of refugees and victims of torture, an area about which he has published extensively. He practices immigration law and human rights. He has testified on numerous occasions as an expert witness in cases involving human rights violations.

Moreno is a fellow of the American College of Physicians (ACP). He served as president of the Texas chapter of the ACP between 2014 and 2015. He is board recertified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
