A joint effort of the Department of Health Social Work and the Steve Hicks School of Social Work at The University of Texas at Austin, the Institute for Military and Veteran Family Wellness fosters collaboration to meet the social support and behavioral health needs of military members, veterans and their families. The institute convenes researchers, professionals and community members to promote effective care, cultivate best practices and more.

The team works closely with military and veteran families as well as the local organizations and health care systems that serve them.

Areas of Focus

To better understand crucial issues faced by military and veteran families, the institute supports research on a range of relevant programs and practices. Findings inform and shape services for members of the military, veterans and their families.

The institute equips current and emerging professionals with training in evidence-based practices known to effectively serve military and veteran families.

Stakeholders in military and veteran communities work closely with the institute team, providing vital input on its approach and offerings. The institute also offers several community-based resources including the Veteran Spouse Network.
